- Lang Cares and Lang Development Put on Third Annual Food Drive with the Food Bank of Delaware
May 30, 2023 (Newark, Delaware): For the third year in a row, Lang Cares and Lang Development Group partnered with the Food Bank of Delaware to put on a food drive during the last week of May before our residential tenants moved out of their apartments. We would like to extend a big thank you to our tenants for making our third annual Food Bank of Delaware Food Drive a huge success! With your donations, we were able to provide 368 pounds of food to those in need.
The Food Bank of Delaware distributes millions of pounds of food each year to the community through on-site food pantries, mobile food pantries and a network of hunger-relief partners throughout the state. We are proud to continue our partnership with the Food Bank of Delaware through our annual food drive.
- Lang Cares Awards First Annual Scholarship at Newark High School
May 23, 2023 (Newark, Delaware): Earlier this morning, Lang Cares awarded our first annual Lang Cares Foundation Scholarship for Future Community Leaders at Newark High School to senior student, Seth Fuhr. Seth received the one-time scholarship in the amount of $2,500 to be used for his future college expenses. He will be attending the University of Delaware next year and studying engineering. We are so excited to expand on our scholarship program to Newark High School and continue it for many years to come.
- Lang Cares Awards Second Annual Scholarship for Future Community Leaders at Newark Charter High School
May 18, 2023 (Newark, Delaware): Lang Cares awarded the second annual Lang Cares Foundation Scholarship for Future Community Leaders at Newark Charter High School to two seniors, Jyoti Bonis and Lila Seiler. Jyoti and Lila received the one-time scholarship in the amount of $2,500 to be used for their future college expenses.
Lang Cares is honored to present this scholarship to both of these highly qualified students who have shown extreme success both in and out of the classroom. Jyoti and Lila are also heavily involved in their local community through volunteering their time and efforts at numerous organizations.
- Lang Cares Sponsors 2023 UDance Dance Marathon
May 3, 2023 (Newark, Delaware): Lang Cares was proud to be a Warrior Sponsor for this year’s UDance Dance Marathon benefitting the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation. The event took place on April 23, 2023 at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark. It was a huge success and raised over $1.7 million to help fund childhood cancer research.
UDance is a student-run philanthropic organization at the University of Delaware. Founded in 2007, UDance has been dedicated to fighting childhood cancer ever since.
UDance raises awareness in our community through social media and on and off campus events, while providing immediate and direct financial aid to families affected by childhood cancer.
UDance’s sole beneficiary is The Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation. The B+ Foundation provides financial and emotional support to families of kids affected by cancer nationwide, and funds critical, cutting-edge childhood cancer research.

April 6, 2023 (Newark, DE): Lang Cares and Lang Development were proud to sponsor the inaugural Newark Historical Society Founders Day 5K on Saturday, April 1st in Newark. The funds raised from the race will help support the renovation of the historic Newark Train Station. Even with the inclement weather, the event was still a big success.
The Newark Historical Society was formed in the fall of 1981, after a small group of Newark residents, business people, professionals, educators, and students decided that such an organization was desirable in order “to preserve and celebrate Newark’s past.” The Newark Historical Society’s area of focus includes the people, places and events that have shaped Newark’s history.

March 13, 2023 (Newark, Delaware): Lang Cares sponsored the first ever Newark Charter High School PatriotThon dance marathon this past Saturday benefitting the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation. The event was a huge success and raised over $10,000.
The Andrew McDonough B+ (Be Positive) Foundation honors the life of Andrew McDonough. Andrew battled leukemia, septic shock and complications of childhood cancer for 167 days before passing away on July 14, 2007, at the age of 14. Andrew’s B+ blood type became his family and friends’ motto throughout his fight against childhood cancer – to “Be Positive.”
The B+ Foundation is about Kids Helping Kids Fight Cancer – raising money through events on college campuses, local events like 5Ks and Golf Outing, corporate partnerships, merchandise sales, and more – to provide financial and emotional support to families of children with cancer nationwide and fund critical, cutting-edge childhood cancer research.
- Lang Cares and Lang Development Sponsor the 5th Annual SL24 Memorial Basketball Classic
February 10, 2023 (Wilmington, DE): Lang Development Group and Lang Cares were honored to sponsor the Fifth Annual SL24 Memorial Basketball Classic this past weekend at the Chase Fieldhouse. The event raised over $500,000 helping to provide resources for those struggling with depression, self-injury, and suicide. Lang Cares and Lang Development Group are so proud to support the SL24:UnLocke the Light Foundation and their great work in our local community.
Since 2019, the SL24 Memorial Basketball Classic has raised over $1,600,000 for the SL24: UnLocke the Light Foundation. Through these funds, the foundation has been able to reach thousands of high school and college students to spread mental health awareness and hope.
The SL24: UnLocke the Light Foundation was created in 2018 by the Locke family following the loss of their son Sean in his battle with depression.
The UNLOCKE THE LIGHT movement has three objectives:
- Educate high school and college students to the signs of depression, remove the stigma of depression, and make available resources to help people with depression and the real threat of suicide.
- Assist high school and college students with the transitions of life, helping them gain the tools to live life with mental illness and finding the tools to cope with the many challenges that life brings.
- Create a safe haven where high school and college students receive professional help and speak to peers about their struggles with depression and the threat of suicide.
- Lang Cares Sponsors 2023 St. John the Beloved Basketball Tournament
February 6, 2023 (Wilmington, Delaware): Lang Cares and Lang Development Group were both proud to sponsor the 2023 Boys and Girls St. John the Beloved Basketball Tournament.
St. John the Beloved has a long and proud history of hosting annual basketball tournaments and providing great opportunities for boys and girls teams to make memories. In 2023, the tournament had over 50 teams, of both girls and boys participating.
Lang Cares is honored to support an event that provides opportunities for youth in our community to participate in sports and recreation.
- Lang Cares Supports Chapel Street Players Event, CSP Revival
January 9, 2023 (Newark, Delaware): On December 30th, Chapel Street Players presented “CSP Revival,” the launch of its capital campaign to support the move and furnishing of its new theater being built by Lang Development Group. The evening featured live entertainment including Dame Edna’s Honorary Understudy (Scott Mason as Dame Edna), AKA Whoopi (Bettina Williams as Whoopi Goldberg) as emcees, and international Tik Tok star and singer, Marji Eldreth. The show also included videos of CSP’s history and past volunteers, live and silent auctions, a pre New Year’s countdown and champagne toast, and food and drinks courtesy of many local vendors including Blue Crab, Klondike Kates, and Cafe’ Gelato. The event raised over $6,000, which the theater deemed a success for the show. The entertainment was underwritten in part by Lang Cares.
Beyond supporting the event, Lang Cares also provided funds for a children’s program to be developed in the future by Chapel Street Players for kid’s activities, shows, and camps.
- Lang Cares and Lang Development Group Put on First Holiday Food Drive
December 20, 2022 (Newark, Delaware): This Holiday Season, we continued our partnership with the Food Bank of Delaware to put on a Holiday Food Drive during the last week of classes before our Lang Development Group residential tenants go back home for winter break. Thank you to all of our tenants who participated in this year’s drive as we were able to collect a lot of food to help those in need.
- Lang Cares Supports UD Football Seats for Soldier’s Initiative
November 11, 2022 (Newark, Delaware): On Saturday, November 12th, the University of Delaware Football Team is hosting the Richmond Spiders in the 2022 Salute to Service Game. Lang Cares is supporting the game by participating in the Seats for Solider’s initiative by donating 25 tickets to military personnel and their families. We are happy to support the University of Delaware Football Team and those personnel serving in the military.

September 30, 2022 (Newark, Delaware): On Sunday, September 25th, Fusion Racing hosted the 2022 Donut Dash 5K benefiting the Newark Police Athletic League. The event took place in downtown Newark with many runners and walkers from the local community participating in the race. Lang Cares helped sponsor the event in support of the Newark PAL.
The Newark Police Athletic League started in 2019 with the goal of creating better relationships between Newark Police Officers and children in the local community.
- Lang Cares Sponsors 2022 Party in the Park Presented by the Newark PAL
August 22, 2022 (Newark, Delaware): This past weekend, on Saturday, August 20, Lang Cares sponsored an event called the Party in the Park put on by the Newark Police Athletic League. The event took place in Dickey Park in Newark, Delaware where Newark Police Officers had the opportunity to interact with individuals in their local community. The Party in the Park had many activities for kids and adults alike including face painting, games, free food, music, an inflatable slide, and an ice cream truck. Lang Cares is proud to support the Newark PAL and all of the great work they are doing in our local community including events like the Party in the Park.

- Lang Cares Sponsors Nature Camp for Wilmington Head Start in Collaboration with UD Lab School
July 25, 2022 (Wilmington, Delaware): Last week, Lang Cares sponsored a Nature Camp for Wilmington Head Start in collaboration with the University of Delaware Lab School. The camp lasted one week and allowed children from Wilmington Head Start the chance to experience nature for the first time. Daily activities included exploring in the woods, playing in the creek, learning about nearby animals, and discovering all the joys of being in nature. With the help of two UD Lab School Lead Teachers, Katie Pollock and Kristen Chandler, the camp was a huge success. We are so happy to give children the opportunity to experience the outdoors in a whole new way and look forward to continuing this camp for years to come!
Wilmington Head Start, Inc. is a free preschool program that provides services to children and families. Their core program is tailored to meet the needs of children ages three to five.
The University of Delaware Lab School is an inclusive early learning school, serving children aged six months to six years. Our two instructors for the Lang Cares sponsored Nature Camp have been teaching at the UD Lab School for many years.

July 14, 2022 (Newark, Delaware): This summer, Lang Cares is proud to be a Blue Ribbon sponsor of Oaklands Pool and the Slugs Swim Team. Oaklands Swim Club is a community pool located in Newark, Delaware. The Slugs Swim Team includes swimmers of all ages, abilities, and experience levels. We are happy to help support this year’s summer season.

June 30, 2022 (Hockessin, Delaware): Earlier this year, Lang Cares sponsored the 2022 Piedmont Softball spring season. Piedmont has been operating as a recreational youth program in New Castle County since 1976. Piedmont serves over 1,200 children for its main program of spring-time Baseball and Softball for youth ages 5 to 18 years old.
Piedmont Baseball League, Inc. is a non-profit organization run by volunteers from the Hockessin, DE community. Lang Cares is honored to support an organization like Piedmont that gives back to youth in our local community.
- Lang Cares Sponsors First Annual CCD Golf Classic
June 3, 2022 (Newark, Delaware): Lang Cares Foundation sponsored the Community Collaboration of Delaware’s First Annual Golf Outing held at Deerfield Golf Club on Friday, May 27th.
The proceeds from CCD’s charity golf outing went towards supporting their C.A.R.E. (Community Advocacy, Recovery Empowerment) Program. This program provides daily care and case management to individuals as they move through the various stages of recovery from a Substance Use Disorder. The funds generated from the golf outing also supported CCD’s youth prevention program, HOPE (Healthy Options for Prevention Education), that helps plant the seeds of prevention for the next generation of Delaware’s youth. This free after-school program offers a healthy meal and educational, nutritional, recreational, and social development activities to 20 local youth three days a week for seven weeks for an hour and a half each day.
We are happy to support a nonprofit organization like CCD that is making a major difference in our local community.

May 5, 2022 (Newark, Delaware): Lang Cares awarded the first annual Lang Cares Foundation Scholarship for Future Community Leaders to two seniors at Newark Charter School. Angela Steinkrauss and Riley Hevelow were the two students who received the one-time scholarship in the amount of $2,500 to be used for their future college expenses. Angela will be attending the University of Pennsylvania to study nursing while Riley will be attending Lebanon Valley College to study physical therapy and play basketball.

February 25, 2022 (Wilmington, Delaware): Lang Cares, the philanthropic arm of Lang Development Group, sponsored the Fourth Annual SL24 Memorial Basketball Classic from February 5-7 at the Chase Fieldhouse in Wilmington, Delaware. The event raised over $400,000 helping to spread awareness surrounding mental health and suicide. Lang Cares was so proud to support the SL24:UnLocke the Light Foundation and their great work in our local community, providing education and resources to those battling depression.
- Lang Development Group Creates Charitable Arm, Lang Cares Foundation
January 25, 2022 (Newark, Delaware): Lang Development Group, a Newark-based real estate development company has created its own philanthropic arm, the Lang Cares Foundation. The foundation will be aimed to help organizations, individuals, and families in the local community through scholarship programs, community drives, charity events, among other activities.
Lang Cares Foundation will provide assistance to local organizations in an effort to positively contribute to the community where our company conducts most of its business.
Lang Development Group has been a mainstay in Newark for over 20 years and annually gives to numerous organizations including the DFRC-Blue Gold, Food Bank of Delaware, SL24, Newark Charter School, Delaware Restaurant Association, Rotary Club of Newark, UDance, Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company, Water is Life, Special Olympics, Blood Bank of Delaware, Fraternal Order of Police, Christiana Care, Ronald McDonald House of Delaware, and many others.
Lang Development Group will look to continue its charitable outreach and expand upon these measures through the creation of the Lang Cares Foundation. “We are very excited to get this foundation off the ground and further contribute to our efforts in giving back to the local community where we have lived and done business for many years,” Jeff Lang, founder of Lang Development Group and the Lang Cares Foundation.
Lang Cares Foundation was created in January 2022 by Jeff and Karyn Lang along with the commitment and help from their family members and business partners. The foundation will strive to make a positive impact in our community with the continued commitment to assist people in our local community and state.
